20 POTATO REVIEW NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2020 VARIETY OPEN DAYS rostochiensis and need a low nitrogen input of 130kg/ha (on mineral soils), still producing high yields and good dry matter,” he said. “Ramos has been around for several years now and has been well accepted by the chip shop marker, with good oval long tuber shape, a good even fry colour and a melt in the mouth texture. Ramos has good resistance to early blight and also has PCN resistance to G. rostochiensis and partial resistance to G. pallida” He said both Camel and Titan, had shown good dual resistance and tolerance to PCN G. pallida and G. rostochiensis. Camel, which has a distinct blood red skin and light yellow esh, had “excellent taste and texture” produced high yields of very uniform oval tubers, Peter added, while Titan, a crisping variety for medium-term storage, produces high tuber numbers - 17 per plant - so has high yields as well as a low bruising index, with a high dry matter content of 23%. Tubers are round to round oval in shape. e new crisping variety, SH C 1010, has been developed for long term storage with good dormancy and can be stored at lower temperatures. “ e crop produces high yields of uniform round to round oval shaped tubers which have a yellow skin and yellow esh, with good resistance to potato virus Y and spraing,” said Peter. Peter was keen to demonstrate the next varieties to watch for the future: STT 10-6777 and STT 12-3300. “STT 10-6777 is a maincrop table variety which produces high tuber numbers so producing high yields of round oval tubers with excellent taste and a good dry matter, with very good resistance to potato virus Y and spraing. STT 12-3300 is an early baker table variety with high PCN resistance to both G. pallida and G. rostochiensis, produces good yields of round tubers.” Making their mark Warren Keyes, Area manager of Germicopa UK, was also on hand to demonstrate a selection of varieties from Germicopa and Danespo. e Danespo varieties included Red Bullet, Just Bake, Mikado and Argana.
