Skills The Chancellor of the Exchequer presented his ‘Plan for Jobs’ to Parliament in July, outlining how the Government will boost job creation in the UK. Here, George Swann , FIS Skills and Training Lead, suggests that the way to build on that is for companies to invest in young people. It is vital that we get behind this Plan for Jobs, pull together as a supply chain and focus our efforts on a more consistent approach to developing competency and managing careers within our sector. Through initiatives like its BuildBack programme, FIS is working with suppliers to link potential employees with employers. Applying the new apprenticeship standard, FIS working groups and its growing George Swann, FIS Skills and Training Lead network of approved training providers are developing Industry Standard Competency SAKE Frameworks (skills, attitudes, knowledge and experience) that map careers in a more consistent way. 2020 apprenticeship incentives Apprenticeships aremademore affordable by incentive funding of up to £3,000 for employers that take on an apprentice between 1August 2020 and31 January 2021, plus, of course, the CITBgrants available for apprentices. For apprentices aged: • 16 to 24, you’ll receive £2,000; and • 25 and over, you’ll receive £1,500. Follow these three steps for funding payments: 1. Employers can spend the funding payment on anything to support their organisation’s costs. This is in addition to the £1,000 payment already available to help
