MODERN BUILDING SERVICES APRIL 2021 31 WHAT’S NEW A guide to new products and services for MBS readers. MBS Improveddrypocket for SpiroTrap andSpiroCombi Spirotech has improved the dry pocket of themagnetic dirt separator in its steel SpiroTrap and SpiroCombi units, making themeven easier tomaintain. The magnetic dirt separators automatically extract dirt (magnetite) from system water in cooling and heating systems, preventing losses in efficiency over their service life. For the improved dry pocket, a 360-degree rotatable drainage tap has been added to a new immersion tube, which makes it easier for installers to position the tap in the direction of a drain. The improved steel SpiroTrap and SpiroCombi models are for commercial applications and are available now. While the SpiroTrap is purely a dirt separator, the SpiroCombi is also a deaerator, removing circulating air and microbubbles as well as dirt. After a period, free air and air bubbles cause corrosion and oxidation, while dirt and other contaminants disrupt the flow. This causes heating and cooling systems to operate less efficiently, which in turn increases energy consumption. www.spirotech.co.uk Mackwell launchesnewexit sign range The XYVEX EXC is the latest versatile addition to Mackwell’s successful XYVEX emergency exit sign range. The XYVEX EXC is designed to allow complete customisation for each application, making it ideal for meticulous, architecturally designed areas. The goal is to remove project disputes which often occur when placing mandatory and safety critical exit signs; the sleek design of the XYVEX EXC can be colored to match any room while the LED power can be reduced during normal operation mode to give safe but satisfying guidance to exits. In the case of a loss of power the output jumps to 100% automatically to ensure safety is paramount. The XYVEX EXC contains Mackwell’s ELEDD Micro control gear as standard which is fine-tuned to its accompanying battery and LED load, allowing a very low circuit power of 2Wwhen at 100% output. The ELEDD Micro core gives the XYVEX EXC exit sign a myriad of Mackwell’s tried and tested features including DALI Autotest compatibility, SmartCharge and ORIGIN functionality. +44 (0) 1922 458 255 customer.services@mackwell www.mackwell.com Armacell combines safety and sustainability with improved fire behaviour for Tubolit® Split & DuoSplit • Euroclass BL-s1,d0 for higher fire safety • Coated for protection against mechanical strain and UV radiation • Excellent condensation control and long-term energy savings Armacell has achieved one of the highest fire performance ratings for its pre-insulated seamless drawn copper pipes. The enhanced safety of the environmentally sustainable Tubolit Split and DuoSplit products makes them ideal for use as part of the external air source heat pump systems that the government is encouraging in its drive to achieve carbon neutrality. Pre-insulated with Armacell’s Tubolit closed-cell polyethylene, Tubolit Split and DuoSplit are designed for both domestic and commercial use. Versatile in application, they can be used to connect the indoor and outdoor components of split and multi-split air-conditioning systems, as well as being ideal for connecting to external air source heat pumps. The products are suitable for use with refrigerants R-410A and R-407C, as well as R-32 and R-290 in accordance with EN 12735-1. Whilst Tubolit Split is a single pre-insulated copper pipe, DuoSplit is a pair of flow-and- return pipes for use when the two follow the same route. The certification comes at an important time for the UK, as the government has identified heat pumps as a key technology in the country’s drive to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, stipulating that 600,000 unitsmust be installed by 2028. It has extended the GreenHomes Grant until 2022 and in 2020, initiated a £1bn Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.TheTubolit products’ newfire ratingmeans that they can safely be used on the hundreds of thousands of newheat pumps being installed to provide sustainable heat for radiators and underfloor heating. www.armacell.co.uk Mitsubishi Electric launches modular R32e-series chiller Mitsubishi Electric has launched an R32 version of its popular e-series chillers, available in 150kW and 180kW units. The e-series allows up to six units to be connected together to provide a total system capacity of up to 1080kW. The new modular chiller is available in both cooling only and heat pump variations and comes with a five-year warranty. Using R32 refrigerant, the e-series replacesMitsubishi Electric’s previous R410A offering, in linewith the business’ commitment to provide products with lower GlobalWarming Potential and abide by F-Gas Regulations. Thanks to the use of improved heat exchange coils and aluminiummicro channel in the cooling only version, the overall volume of refrigerant used in the chiller is reduced, helping to increase its energy efficiency. The e-series has a Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio of up to 5.52, a Delta T of up to 10¦K and internal headers making it ideal for commercial buildings, such as offices, large retail premises, universities, libraries, hospitality and healthcare, as well as low temperature ambient loop heat networks solutions like multi-residential or multi-purpose buildings.
