The trials will comprise: • Cultivations: Comparing primary and secondary cultivation depths, speeds and equipment. • Seed handling: Part of a longer-term project that will help to identify the specific areas that e ect the potential of a seed crop. This aspect is focussed on the handling of the seed prior to planting. • Dormancy and determinacy: More varieties to be tested to help expand the bank of knowledge • Soil moisture monitoring and irrigation scheduling: Building on recent irrigation work we will be looking at the technology available to get the most out of every valuable drop of water at your disposal. • Haulm pulling for desiccation Other Spot Farms 2021 trials throughout the year will include: • SPot East: Virus, wireworm, PCN, late blight, soils and compaction • SPot West: Cover crops, soil health scorecards, soil erosion, late blight, determinacy, spraing (if present) • Scotland: Nutrition, desiccation, wild flower mixes, PCN, carbon audit A North-West England farm has also agreed to host a number of field-based experiments as part of AHDB’s 2021 Strategic Potato Farm Programme. Pickmere-based L P Ollier & Son will join the SPot Farms in Angus, North Lincolnshire, Herefordshire and Su olk as part of a national programme of work aimed at tackling the challenges growers are facing at a local and national level. Featuring flu y potato centres with a crispy coating, they are available in flavours similar to the crisps versions - BBQ beef, original, cheese and onion and salt and vinegar for the Hula Hoops and pickled onion and BBQ beef for the Space Raiders. They became available on Monday (April 12th) in UK stores Iceland and Food Warehouse and cost £1.50. Digimon Adventure welcomes new monster inspired by potatoes ONE of the new monsters to be introduced by the Digimon Adventure comic book franchise has been inspired by potatoes. The original series has been re-adapted by Toei Animation for a new generation, with new ‘monsters’ being introduced. Comicbook describes the potato-inspired monster as having “no business being so cute”. In the preview for the next Digimon Adventure episode, fans were shown Potamon for the first time. It has a toddling body covered in brown peel with chubby cheeks to o set the rustic shade. Its ‘hair’ is potato wedges. The promo shows Potamon spraying potato juice from his mouth.
