CONTENTS www.potatoreview.com POTATO REVIEW NOVEMBER 2021 3 Editor’s letter THIS issue of Potato Review comes with amixture of excitement and sadness. On the one hand, we’re incredibly excited about the imminent arrival of two side- by-side live events - e National Potato Industry Awards and BP2021 – which have been eagerly anticipated ever since we received con rmation that they would be able to go ahead following previous COVID-19 event cancellations. Asmentioned previously, a lot has happened over the past two years, frommachinery developments, trials ndings, industry collaborations and buy-outs, supply chain challenges and environmental targets and ndings, that there will be somuch to catch up on at the show and celebrate on the awards. is is re ected in the nominations we’ve received for all categories, and some of the news sharedwith us by show exhibitors. We also feature a 12-page show supplement containing all show information you’ll need to prepare and structure your visit. Whilemany of us prepare to network andmeet old friends and business associates, we were sad to learn that one key industry gure, Hazel Hescott, has passed away after losing a battle against cancer. Hazel’s father was the Founder of Potato Review and she became a well-known and loved gure in themany years she spent as its Advertising Manager and Finance Director. A tribute to Hazel can be found in our news section. Andwhile November will be a time to celebrate, December will herald another sad occasion – the closure of the Sutton Bridge research facility. A special feature in this issue pays tribute tomuch of the goodwork carried out there. As an industry that is constantly looking at newways to operate sustainably whilemaximising yields and pro t, we were pleased to hear of the approval for a new storage product and have lots of insights to share on biological updates, as well as plenty of other seasonal news and views.
