NEWS Machinery show stands lling up EXHIBITION stands are filling up for the Midlands Machinery Show, which takes place at Newark Showground in the UK on November 8th and 9th. Last year’s show had more than 230 exhibitors and attracted over 6,200 visitors. The event oers growers and contractors the opportunity to view the latest kit, from new tractors to robots, precision sprayers to drills, and ever more refined low disturbance cultivators. www.grimme.co.uk More growers lean on charity MORE than two and a half times as many members of the farming community received support from farming charity RABI last year in comparison to 2021. The increase in the number of working families RABI supported suggests that increasingly complex challenges are impacting many growers, according to RABI’s director of services, Caron Whaley. Growers urged to join in open day UK GROWERS are again being urged to join the annual LEAF Open Farm Sunday event, which takes place at dierent venues throughout the country, on Sunday, June 11th. The event oers an opportunity to showcase British food and growing and for consumers to see how food is grown in harmony with the environmet, according the charity Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF), which co-ordinates the events. Hundreds of farms open their gates to host small farm walks to full farm open days, welcoming anything from 10 people to hundreds or thousands. Every event is individual to the farm and their own story, but all oer a valuable opportunity to build connections and relationships. Locally-sourced potatoes are key ingredient in new range A NEW range of plant-based cheese products has just been launched in the UK, with potato forming one of the main ingredients, and featuring the backing of McCain Foods. The Simple Root cheese is made of 33% root vegetables including potato, carrot and sweet Potato and the producers are keen to point out that all the potatoes used are from British growers. The new range of cheeses includes block, grated and sliced cheddar style alternatives. The UK-produced Simple Root is backed by venture management specialist Pilot Lite Group as well as McCain Foods.
