It’s only in the last year that I’ve taken stock of how valuable the various sectors related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration are. It’s during this time that the essential services we o•er have been recognised more than ever before. I’m extremely proud to be the custodian of the editorial position for ACR Journal. It has been occupied by some remarkable people in the past, no more so than my predecessor David Todd, who I sincerely wish all the best in his future endeavours. Wellbeing is currently at the forefront of everyone’s mind and none more so than that related to the air we breathe. We continue to change our approach between technologies as the directive related to the way we apply ventilation varies. Still, one thing remains clear - ventilation will be the number one priority when designing buildings for the future. Even though there has been a temporary shift of attention away from thermal comfort, it remains one of the cornerstones of our industry. While ventilation is key, maintaining climatic conditions within occupied spaces at high e™ciencies is required to keep our focus on the road to net zero. To achieve these goals, we need long term commitment, and with that, we witness the amazing work currently taking place through various STEM networks. The industry’s associations are also as committed as ever to improving everyone’s educational and training opportunities. I’m sure with collective e•orts from us all, we will encourage the next generation of ‘cooling champions’ – as World Refrigeration Day would aptly call it.
