December 2022 | January 2023 A standing ovation followed the announcement that the annual Kooltech Award for outstanding contribution to the industry was awarded to the man whose company sponsored the award. IOR Scottish Branch Chair Danny Watson told guests: “A dynamic and hard working individual who succeeded where other people may have failed. Some would say a workaholic, but at heart a true family man. “To many people, a mentor, a friend, and highly respected within our industry. “A great supporter of the IOR in Scotland, always willing to o er guidance and knowledge in his own customary way. Let’s just say, a true character in every sense of the word. “I would like to quote one of his sayings that helped to build the foundations of his business. ‘We build trust by engaging with our customers, so that their beliefs become our business.’ A clever and inciteful statement from a man who was taken from us from us far EVENTS 26 More than 500 guests at the IOR Scottish Dinner paid an emotional tribute to Murray Sharp, the former managing director of air conditioning and refrigeration distributor Kooltech, who passed away in August. Scottish Dinner honours Murray Sharp too early and shall be sorely missed by many.’’ Another sold-out event at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow also saw Lewis Purves Volume 9 No.1 of PDC Refrigeration and Air Conditioning named Apprentice of the Year, with Craig Russell of Specific Heat (London) Ltd runner-up.
