The Refrigerant Update ❘ 05 So the focus is now starting to shift away from a simple question of the potential environment impact of refrigerant leaks and emissions to the safe handling of refrigerants in a responsible manner. REFCOM 25 year anniversary It is interesting to note that 2021 marked the 25th anniversary of the BESA RACHP Group creating REFCOM.The concept from the outset was to create a voluntary code of conduct for its’ members who were audited to prove they worked in a more safe and responsible manner regarding their refrigerant handling work. “REFCOM” – abbreviated from “REFrigerant handling COMpetence” – became the sector standard bearer for contractors across the sector and the standards became embedded in the ethos behind the BESA Competence and Assessment scheme which all BESA members must submit themselves to when they join, and at regular intervals throughout their membership. So perhaps it is fitting that this shift towards competence and responsible safe handling
