Bursar’s Review Annual Conference 2022 Sample

5 @the_isba Annual Conference 2022 CHAIR'S WELCOME With the financial, operational, social and political challenges impacting our sector showing no signs of lessening, we are delighted to give you the chance to consider how you – and your school – should respond by bringing this year’s ISBA annual conference to you – in person – from Monday 16 May to Wednesday 18 May 2022 at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham. The ISBA team and Board have worked hard to plan an extensive and topical professional development programme tackling the big issues currently facing schools and members will hear from a range of expert speakers, sharing practical tips and advice that can easily be put to practical use both in day-to-day operations and in longer term strategy and decision-making. The conference will be opened on Monday 16 May by David Woodgate, ISBA’s chief executive, followed by the first conference keynote session titled ‘Five year outlook: how will the sector look in 2027?’ with Mungo Dunnett. David Woodgate and Richard Harman, chief executive of AGBIS, will then co-host a session ‘Threats and opportunities in a rapidly evolving environment (the bursars’ and governors’ perspective of the operational impact of geopolitical issues)’. After lunch there will be a series of update sessions covering finance, legal and risk. Networking drinks (a cash bar) will be available and delegates will then be free to attend exhibitor or sponsor functions or make their own evening arrangements. On Tuesday 17 May, the conference and exhibition will open giving delegates the opportunity to visit sponsors and exhibitors in the exhibition areas before the first keynote session of the day from Lord Mark Price on ‘What is stopping you seeing the future?' Following the keynote, delegates will then be able spend time visiting the exhibition areas and networking with colleagues including refreshments and lunch. The afternoon sessions will feature David Woodgate speaking about the current state of play in the sector and coping with the changing business environment. Adele Blakebrough, chief executive of the Social Business Trust, will then present a keynote session at on ‘Where is independent education going to fit? As a business, as a charity…’ and this will be followed by breakout sessions and a final keynote from David Smellie of Farrer & Co on safeguarding. The afternoon will conclude with delegates, guests, sponsors and exhibitors joining together for a ‘Welcome to Conference’ drinks reception with light refreshments. Wednesday 18 May will see the conference and exhibition open again, prior to the first keynote of the day from Richard Gerver – an inspirational speaker on creativity, leadership and education – titled ‘Thinking clearly’. The day will continue with a mix of breakout, panel and keynote sessions. Keynote sessions will include Tim Harford, economist and broadcaster, on ‘Cutting through to the facts’, and Shivvy Jervis, futurist and broadcaster whose session is titled ‘Which digital innovations will shape the education sector now and in our next reality?' The conference sessions will be closed by ISBA’s chair, Eleanor Sharman, bursar of Rendcomb College. In the evening we will welcome delegates, guests and conference sponsors to the ISBA annual dinner which will include entertainment from after-dinner speaker, Miles Jupp, actor and comedian. In addition to the many opportunities to network with colleagues from other schools, the event’s exhibition will provide the chance to connect with more than 150 suppliers to the sector. Delegates can rest assured that we are working closely with the venue to provide a safe environment in which we can deliver an exceptional and COVID-safe conference for the benefit of all who attend the event. We look forward to welcoming you all to the conference.
