A new Scheme Support service has been launched by MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme). Designed for anyone who is thinking about becoming MCS certified – or those installers who already are – it o ers one-to-one advice, workshops, masterclasses and sharing of technical information and expertise. A newly appointed team will o er online, telephone and/or face-to-face guidance for those who are working towards becoming MCS certified, alongside technical support on how to comply with MCS requirements. MCS has appointed industry figures, Julian Hodgson and Steve Webster, who will travel the breadth of the UK in their new roles, meeting with installers to o er the new service. Julian is an apprentice trained heating engineer with over 30 years’ experience in the industry and a lifelong environmentalist, with a real passion for all things renewable. As a former trainer, technical assessor and installer of renewable heating installations, Julian has experience of MCS from both sides of the fence. A member of the CIPHE and an EngTech with the UK Engineering Council, Steve is a degree qualified and trained heating and renewables engineer. He has years of practical design and installation experience, having run his own small, successful MCS certified heating and renewable energy business installing PV, Heat Pump and Solar Thermal technologies. MCS Scheme Support is to help prepare for, but is separate from, certification. For more information on accessing the service, please contact the MCS Helpdesk on 0333 103 8130. Upskill and prepare for change with the BESA’s Heat Pump Installer course The Building Engineering Services Association (BESA), Worcester Bosch and the Home Builders Federation (HBF) have created an online course designed to upskill qualified plumbing, heating and RAC engineers to correctly install and maintain domestic heat pumps. The Heat Pump Installer training course will give engineers the knowledge to capitalise not just on installations in ‘new build’ homes but also the domestic retrofit market too. The course is for those with one of the following: ° Blue/Gold ACRIB/SKILLcard Refrigeration/Air Conditioning Engineer ° F-Gas Qualification ° Oftec Registration ° Gas Safety Registration The Heat Pump Installer course is made up of six modules, including di erent types of systems, maintenance and commissioning. According to the UK Government, 600,000 heat pumps a year need to be installed from 2028 to meet our carbon- reduction targets, aligning with installation levels of other European nations. Heat pumps create warmer, better homes whilst improving lives and livelihoods. Heat Pump Month brings together industry bodies, manufacturers and suppliers with influencers, specifiers and installers to enable the scale-up of heat pump deployment across the UK. From Monday 14th June a month-long series of free-to-attend online events will bring together housing, built-environment, policy and installation professionals to collaborate around one the UK’s greatest carbon-reduction challenges – our homes. Heat Pump Month is backed by Ground Source Heat Pump Association, Heat Pump Association, Heat Pump Federation and MCS, and supported by heat pump manufacturers: Daikin, Kensa, Mitsubishi Electric and Vaillant, water treatment experts Elysator UK and heat emitter manufacturers Jaga UK. Registration for all events will open shortly at www.lowcarbonhomes.uk .
