CONTENTS www.potatoreview.com POTATO REVIEW MAY/JUNE 2020 3 Editor’s letter What a di erent climate we’re in from when I last wrote an introduction for Potato Review - and this time I’m not talking about the weather. With the outbreak of Covid-19 in the UK, many of us are working in isolation and social distancing has become far more than a personal choice. Once more, however, it’s been an opportunity to see our own industry rise above the odds and carry on with that good old British spirit of seeing a job through to the nish. We’ve seen growers donating produce to those in need, we’ve seen a surge in job opportunities within the supply chain as food producing industries have been put to the forefront, and we’ve seen all aspects of the industry, from eld to fork, continuing to feed the nation and keep their own businesses a oat against all the odds. And we know it’s been far from easy. Fresh from harvesting crops sodden by nature’s last onslaught, growers were hoping 2020 would be a year promising a brighter outlook! But all challenges are there to be overcome, with the right tools and support. In this issue, we’ve pulled together advice from the experts on a number of topics for the season and beyond, with some interesting insights and case histories. We’re also endeavouring to keep you up to date through our weekly newsletter bulletins, so if you’re not signed up to these free e-letters, be sure to visit our websites to subscribe.
